Senior Software Engineer (Laravel | Next.js | PostgreSQL)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Laravel | Next.js | PostgreSQL) based in Germany.

Join an established engineering team responsible for developing and scaling a large, production-grade web application. In this role, you will work across the full stack, combining Laravel backend development with modern frontend technologies such as Next.js, React, and TypeScript. You will contribute to complex technical initiatives, including database migration, API integrations, and application performance optimization. Working closely with DevOps, you will help strengthen deployment workflows, infrastructure, scalability, and security. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys understanding complex systems and improving existing software rather than starting from scratch. You will also contribute to architectural decisions, collaborate with fellow engineers, and have opportunities to grow toward technical leadership.

Accountabilities:

You will contribute to the ongoing development, reliability, and scalability of an enterprise-scale application, taking ownership of features and technical improvements across the stack. Your responsibilities will include:

• Develop and maintain new features for a large-scale production web application.

• Work confidently within an existing codebase, understanding its architecture and identifying opportunities for improvement.

• Build, maintain, and optimize backend services and REST APIs using Laravel and PHP.

• Develop responsive frontend features using Next.js, React.js, TypeScript, JavaScript, and Tailwind CSS.

• Complete the migration of existing MongoDB components to PostgreSQL while maintaining data integrity and application reliability.

• Optimize PostgreSQL queries, database structures, and overall application performance.

• Integrate and maintain third-party APIs, including payment gateways, ERP systems, and other external services where required.

• Manage background jobs, queues, cron jobs, scheduled tasks, and workers to ensure reliable processing.

• Collaborate with the DevOps engineer to improve Docker-based infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, deployments, and cloud operations.

• Troubleshoot production issues, identify root causes, and implement sustainable solutions.

• Improve application scalability, security, stability, and maintainability.

• Participate in architecture discussions, technical planning, and code reviews.

• Support and mentor junior developers when needed, contributing to a collaborative engineering culture.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate is a senior-level software engineer with strong full-stack expertise, hands-on experience supporting production applications, and the ability to navigate complex systems independently. You should combine technical depth with analytical thinking, clear communication, and a collaborative approach. Key qualifications include:

• At least five years of professional software development experience.

• Strong expertise in Laravel and PHP, including backend services and API development.

• Solid experience with Next.js and React.js, along with TypeScript and JavaScript.

• Practical experience working with PostgreSQL and optimizing database performance.

• Good understanding of MongoDB and experience working with different database technologies.

• Experience designing, building, and consuming REST APIs and integrating third-party services.

• Hands-on experience with Docker and working in Linux server environments.

• Understanding of CI/CD workflows, version control with Git, and deployment processes.

• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

• Experience maintaining and improving applications already running in production.

• Ability to quickly understand large codebases and work effectively within established architectures.

• Familiarity with web server technologies such as Nginx and infrastructure tools such as Cloudflare.

• Good communication skills, teamwork, and the ability to contribute to technical discussions.

Additional experience that would be advantageous includes:

• Developing SaaS platforms, enterprise software, or high-traffic web applications.

• Building AI-powered products or integrating AI services such as OpenAI, Gemini, or Claude.

• Working with payment gateways, ERP integrations, and queue management systems.

• Using Redis, RabbitMQ, WebSockets, or other asynchronous processing technologies.

• Managing cloud infrastructure with AWS or DigitalOcean, or working with Kubernetes.

• Improving application performance, scalability, and cloud infrastructure.
