About the Role

We're looking for a Senior AI & Data Scientist to join our global Enterprise AI & Insight Team within ITAS, reporting to the AI Technical Lead. This is a unique opportunity to apply advanced AI and data science techniques to solve complex business challenges across Alcoa's Operations and Enterprise functions while helping shape the future of AI capability across the organization.

As a senior hands-on practitioner, you'll work across the full AI solution lifecycle, from data exploration and experimentation through to model development, deployment and continuous improvement. You'll partner closely with AI Business Analysts, AI Engineers, Data Engineers, Architects and business stakeholders to deliver trusted, scalable and impactful AI solutions that create measurable business value.

In addition to delivering solutions, you'll provide technical leadership on assigned initiatives, mentor other practitioners and contribute to the development of best practices that strengthen Alcoa's AI capability globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development and delivery of AI solutions across Operations and Enterprise functions.

  • Translate complex business requirements into scalable AI and advanced analytics solutions that generate measurable value.

  • Develop, validate and deploy statistical, machine learning and generative AI solutions, including predictive, RAG and agentic AI use cases.

  • Apply rigorous experimentation, model evaluation and data analysis to drive informed decision-making.

  • Lead a small team of data scientists, providing technical leadership, mentorship and quality oversight across assigned initiatives.

  • Partner with business stakeholders, AI Engineers and Data Engineers to deliver trusted, maintainable and responsible AI solutions.

What you can bring to the role

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline (PhD highly regarded).

  • Extensive experience delivering end-to-end AI and data science solutions that generate measurable business outcomes.

  • Deep expertise in statistical modelling, machine learning, experimental design and model validation.

  • Experience developing and evaluating generative AI solutions, including RAG, agentic AI and associated evaluation frameworks.

  • Strong programming and analytical skills, with experience working with complex data and translating business challenges into scalable solutions.

  • Demonstrated technical leadership, mentoring capability and experience working in complex industrial or asset-intensive environments.

  • A flexible work approach to support global business priorities including participating in virtual meetings across various time zones and regions.
